Grains of Selim (known as Uda by the Igbos of Nigeria and Hwentia or Etso in Ghana or Ethiopian Pepper), are the seeds of a shrubby tree, Xylopia aethiopica grown in Africa.
The seeds have a unique aromatic and musky flavor and are used as a peppery spice and as a flavouring ingredient in many African soups, stews and spice drinks.
